> HOW COME AMERICAN PARKS DONT HAVE GRAFFITTI?
Has anyone noticed that on all the skate movies in america, most of the parks dont have any graffitti.
i am from mullumbimby nsw, and our park has only been up for a month now, it is already filled with graffitti.
why dont the yanks do it?
we have stupid shit on our park too like the whole "sk8 or die" and shit like that that should have been killed off in the late 80's when the real punk rock scene saddly died.
(not it has evolved into some monstrous Pop punk era, that ppl think is hard core.)
if u wanna know what i mean bye the park graffitti, look at any of the popular skate dvd's, i noticed it most on one with Tony hawk, Tony hawks secret skate park tour, i thiunk its called or something like that.
fucken awsome skateing, and amazeing parks, but no graffitti.
do the yanks just have more respect for things than we aussies do?
or are they just more pushed into line and conformed than we are?

Hmm.. Interesting observation dill, on many fronts. One thing is for sure. Councils had better be warned not to use that anti graff paint on parks, because its turning our parks into dangerous ice rinks.
american parks with no graffiti are private or if not private the cops are present at all times or if not it will have opening times and a fence and shit.
Not like in Aussieland where skateparks are a top place to dump your oil, do burnouts and practice your scribble

and the graff at mulum ain't that bad, it's not like it makes you slip out - theres not enough, it's mainly just dumb things written, which I think are mainly misguided social remarks from our youth, nothing to worry about. I think there's a line at Mulum saying Ballina surfers go home or something, yeah thats a good one.
SOme councils come and clean the graff off to keep it clean, and some parks have their own rules - if you want to graff at Pizzey you graff in the bowl, not the park, if the park ever gets graffed it's usually cleaned in a few days.
Well think of it another way, although the graf aint to bad in most of the parks, some councils try to implement a "zero tolerance" atittude to getting it cleaned, which means they check the parks regularly and clean it regularly, now we all know this is bullshit but they say they do it and it costs megabucks, so they then turn around and say "no more parks because we spent that money cleaning the existing parks".
Take our local park (cookes park) for an example its been cleaned a few times, had chunks of the flat bottom blown out of it ( fuck knows how they did that) and the dunnies adjacent to the park have had lifted trucks and cars smashed into it. Kids are always coming into the shop saying they got rolled for there boards, phones shoes and whatever so I dont know, maybe coppers or security hanging round the parks might be the way to go.
It seems us skaters want respect and we want to be accepted yet left alone to do our thing but if we keep the graf thing going , The been counters think we are just fucking the facilities and adding to the cost of maintenance.
Personally I dont care how much graf there is but I do know that when councils look at building parks they look at the environment impact studies of past parks and the council nextdoor parks to see how much it costs to maintain.
Its pretty simple really, less gaff means more parks. I dont like that but thats the way it is.
Campbelltown is a good example of somewhere where the graffers have just given up.
I beleive its every Monday morning the council come in with high pressure cleaners and just blast it off, and from what the locals told me, the graffers gave up months ago.
greensy park is trashed and trashed bad ever where you walk your walking on graff now i am a graffer well use to be so i like that stuff but when you trash a park that bad it makes it look ugly and shit

i always wondered why pizzey bowl had been graffitied heaps but the park hadnt
there is no such thing as good graf,skateparks just look that much better with no graf so clean and virgin like,i dont think that seppos would have cops patrolling 24/7 but there fenced off and shit
i think in the states as in the parks around Oregon are not being graffitied is they are made by the sk8er's of the area so they or their friends would be sk8ing these parks and keeping the graf problem out of these parks
of course there is such a thing as good graff, imagine Marseille without it !!!
US parks often have security patrols checking you wearing your pads etc

i love it when dumb tags and kids' fuck-the-authorities-or-whoever graffiti are left to build up and up and up until the entire surface of a bowl or whatever is covered with dense layers of that shit, because then from a certain perspective it can look like a giant pussy full of skinny, wriggling worms. awesome!
