Who cares for stairs?

discomagnet 00:45 04/Apr/07

Sets of stairs in skateparks are pointless and it is so, so rare to ever see anyone using the rails that go down them.

Use of stairs in skateparks:

a) the occasional local kid who will give a half arsed effort at doing either an ollie, kickflip or boardslide who doesn't even get close to a make and hence eventually hurts his ankles and goes home.

b) rare visit from an out of towner/non local ripper who'll ride the whole park for an hour and dance on the rail/throw flip variations over the x set for only some of that time.

c) bulk of the time not used at all.

The majority of people who visit parks either ride transition, large or small, or ride the ledges/manual pads. Flat banks get attention as do funboxes and hips.

Stairs waste space and get in the way of good fast lines.

i couldnt agree more even if you did want to encorporate a 'gap' into the park, it is a waste of space to put in stairs, just a normal bank, euro or even a quarterpipe will allow a skater to use that instead of a set of stairs but with the added flow to the whole park

banks with stairs drawn on them would be the best.

I love euro gaps they need to build more of them.

same as painting a bowl with pool colours

Yes maybe so....but what if there is a demo in the park...and there is no stairs whats gonna happen then..? im not saying there has to be stairs but for a team like baker or something a park with stairs is all they need to impress the croud

James R 02:52 04/Apr/07

maybe so, but in for exapmle melbourne the is shit loads of skaters whom some can skate a decent rail and set of stairs which is fine to have at a park but for example a smaller town not in the city which probually has limited funding and a tour wont probually go there any way a set of stairs is a waste of space and money

discomagnet where are you from

obvisly u guys have shit parks because the stairs at franga are great and a fuckload of locals skate them to hammers hammers hammers all round and theres nothing else we need the parks that big

SYLVA. 09:15 04/Apr/07

depends on the size of the stairs, but the stairs shouldnt effect the lines of the park, they should sorta be to the side or sumfin

When you slam hard a set of stairs is great to limp out of

diddy kong 10:37 04/Apr/07

are you an idiot take berowra skatepark for example the rail gets the most use our of the entire park and so does the stairs

nathan f 10:55 04/Apr/07

na some stairs are sweet, like the waterloo set up for example, both the 6 and the 3 you guy salso have to remeber that it creates an atmosphere to the park.. (talking about street parks) like it would be shit to see the waterloo set up with a hubba with a bank going down eaither side of it, likewise with the rail. parks with stairs thhat have rails make it look way better

Depends on how nice the stairs actually are too skate in my opinion, if they are too long and short then id rather a bank, same if they are too steep. About the only thing I hate about Prahran skatepark are those gay crazy stairs...That rail would be more used if that was a bank on both sides. And it is used most out of the whole park as it is.

more things with banks and wallrides is what every park needs - makes people think of shit. Like stairs with euros and wallrides incorporated would be cool
