> NEW PARK DOWN SOUTH? MAYBEEEEEEE !
Riverwood's a classic example.
Do people still session the bowl?
Olds needs a park.
i still skate them both sidey just to let you know.
olds really needs a miniramp ill be content with that
but whatever ill be down as longas its not a lego dreamland set up
I only skate Riverwood with the MASH crew during the monthly Wed night sessions there. I'm not a big fan of the place unless I'm there with crew to hang out with.
I mostly skate Monster vert, mini, street and Bondi bowl, with all the other parks mixed in for variety.
I like Waterloo, Glebe, Dulwich Hill, Lane Cove, and Bass Hill. I may start to skate Manly Vale pool once every few weeks.
Sidey you mentioned that everyone bags chad, well there's a bloody good reason for it and i can't think of a more selfish designer on this earth. If you really asked everyone what they wanted you eventually would end up with something like some of the parks in oregon. But until council's have to answer to a standard of design required to improve the sport of skateboarding they simply seek out cheap and nasty contractors who don't either care about the sport or undercut the professional outfits who do to win the business. And to be honest i would have to say chad fits the bill on that last statement.
Did Chad build the Sutherland Police Boys Club bowl???Looks like it may have been one of his...still not a bad effort for him I guess..
Ok, I'm not naming names here but... There seems to be a pattern of secrecy with many park designers and builders. This may be because...
a) they are scared another outfit might come in get the contract
b) they do not want their designs up for public critique or discussion
c) they do not want the council to have 3rd party feedback on their park building track record and their park building experince or lack therof.
The end result is that the skateboarding community at times get screwed over massively. Councils end up..
a) awarding park building contracts to outfits with zero park building experience
b) approving shit designs put together for the sole purpose of being the lowest bidder
c) approving designs that the deisgner likes but the majority of skateboarders may think is a joke...
It would be good if someone could step in and demand that councils advertise (somewhere were skateboarders will read it) the fact that they plan to build a park. Secondly they publish widely the submiited design proposals for public comment well before approval.
Apologies for the rant, but I get majorly pissed off seeing pieces of shit built by the lowest bidding local concretor, or possibly worse, shipped in in prefab pieces on a truck.
Thankyou Drew. Everything that you wrote is what I have rants about constantly. I don't care that I've now got a reputation for being a perfectionist prick. I just want to see well built parks that inspire me to learn.
Luxford and I had a good conversation about this yesterday. Neither of us want to have to go back to the USA just to skate the kind of parks we'd like to.
Perhaps some day there will be a design and construction review board with a list of qualified designers and construction companies.
yeah, I'm all ears with what is being said.
At my age, I too have seen my fair share of dodgy parks get built. ( I live in the sutherland shire).
I know of chads rep, and to be honest try my hardest to let local councils thinking of building parks know about it too as early as possible.
I also get over seeing one type of park built though.
It's a scam and crime for parks to be built that cater for transition skaters only.
(Understand I probably fall into that category though. transition skater)
I agree there needs to be an australian standard written.
Do we even have a reputable skateboard association ?????
I dont know if it's a good thing though to give one mob all power. I'd like to think so though.
But there should be a system in place.
and paul, yeah, sutho bowl is a classic example. I'm not sure who got that built. But I'd like to know. I dont think anyone would put their hand up there.
The whole sutho bowl thing came about throught itchy feet surf store owner bob, he rallied and got permittion to use the flat concrete area behind the bike track club house for skateboarding. Scott spring amongst others built portable ramps to be used there, the place eventually got trashed and the club house was broken into resulting in a complete shut down of the idea(kicked out). It was bob again who sought help through the police boys club to get something permanent(sutho council didn't want to know about skateboarding and still don't)and eventually that park came about. Who designed it? well let's just say many experienced skaters and proven designers approached the P.B.C to offer advise on the design only to be told that the design will be left to local kid's(under 18)regardless of riding or design experience. THAT'S WHY SUTHO PARK IS SH*T!!!!
I should clarify that bob(itchy feet surf store)had nothing to do with the design of the SUTHO BOWL he simply rallied P.B.C's support to get a permanent park built. He was a CHAMP!
I thought a mate of mines dad owned or had something to do with that store. At san sousi or whatever?
Yeah, typical sutho council hey.
Why listen to people who know hey.
Clowns.
