BMX peg damage to skatepark concrete

One of the 1/4s at my local is way worse then that it dosent even have coping in it so shit!

Quick and honest question: I know that pegs may do more damage than trucks due to the higher level of impact from them, but what else seperates them from trucks? It appears that they're made from similarly strong metals, and both are curved. How can you tell what is truck-damaged and what is peg damaged.

Also, talking to my housemate, he was saying you can now buy park-friendly trucks that don't gouge the concrete.

what are they called, rollerblades

Trans Am 23:04 07/Feb/07

Klips, BMX stunt pegs do far more damage to the coping because the full weight of the rider and his bike are concentrated in a downward impact between the metal pegs and the coping. Also, any movement while on the coping, produces a lever or fulcrum effect between the metal peg and the concrete which causes further gouging to the concrete surface.

Skateboard tricks have a much lower impact, involve less force and the load is spread out because at least two wheels (which are much softer than BMX pegs) are in contact with the riding surface. Most of the damage caused by trucks is because of friction as the trucks grind across the coping. This is far less destructive than the impact and sudden downward force created by BMX pegs.

This by the way brings me to another major problem which I have experienced with BMX riders. They often ride onto the skatepark concrete after riding across dirt and therefore deposit quite a lot of dirt/sand/soil on to the floor and walls of the skatepark. I usually carry a broom in the boot of my car for cleaning up the skatepark but I'll be fucked if I have to sweep up their mess. I also usually tell the BMXers to get lost if they are wheeling in dirt.

Does anyone else have this problem?

Disco King 10:46 08/Feb/07

that man i married and yeah bikers FUCK OFF like go ride on dirt and grass like that why we have parks cause we cant ride on grass well not really but yeah get your own place

sorry 10:52 08/Feb/07

to my understanding skateboard trucks are a lighter metal and are less dense if thats the right word than bmx pegs

Klips 12:19 08/Feb/07

Trans: fair enough, I'm going to have to take your word on the physics of itm I don't know enough about bike tricks to really agree or disagree so I'll just take your word.

Sorry: I'd be suprised, as the trucks I've felt weight about the same as pegs and are of a *similar* size.

I'm bowing out of this one due to uncovered lack of knowledge, with one final comment.

Disco King: you need to ride what I ride then. 86mm 75a Abec 11 brand Gumballs. Shame they're longboard wheels :D

Cheers,
Klips

Yes Klips, you should bow out, your an absolute moron. Anybody who has the slightest clue in this world knows the difference between bike pegs and trucks. This is a problem skateboarders are trying to discuss and workout a solution for. Why don't you go back to your stupid little site and talk about whatever weird-ass shit you fags crap on about....

I mean what the fuk are you talking about?

Weirdo!

"I don't remember talking to you, but I don't remember heaps from it, just a lot of dark room and fists"

I really think the anti-peg rule could work. Just hard to enforce. But if councils were to agree with this rule due to it being their budget being waisted by premature maintenance required, then they could send the ranger down to the park for a little bit of revenue raising and fine any BMX in the park with pegs. Then leave it up to the BMXers to figure out an alternative to their incompatable attachments.

I know this would be almost imposible to achieve, but in a perfect world........oh the possibilities!

sk8-2nil8: I was at a hardcore show, you know, those places that are held in dark rooms which have fists flying in the mosh. How hard is that to understand...

on this issue, I still haven't heard a good response as to why you can't get a better grant from your council. Is writing a letter *too damn hard*. Starting shit between people (like trying to ban pegs) is stupid, it's like bombing civilians to try and kill terrorists. Also, I know the actual difference between pegs and trucks, I was asking for a comparison in the way they damage coping which Trans Am actually did. You just tried to make yourself feel superior.

Mr Fox: yes, Abec 11 brand wheels. Ask any (decent) longboarder, they'll tell you they're good. I have modus titanium bearings (abec 7?).

try and get anything out of the CBR government dude, we had to battle for months to keep the old civic park open and it took us years to get shade at gungahlin and look what they gave us (no help from BMXers I might add). Don't tell me how easy it is till you fucken try.

As for the NO PEGS that was simply the only way we could think of to slow the damage down so we can still have a functioning park. Talk about starting shit, well the BMXers did when they started fucking our park for us.

Reese doesn't wear them and he owns the shop you talk about. Obviously the older, wiser bikers are already onto it and respect the park.

Just stop with your uninformed views kook. You're not doing yourself any favours.
